My Subject/My Self is a group exhibition of artists self portraits. Joseph Farbrook, internationally recognized artist and Worcester Polytechnic Institute professor paired up with Josephine Martins, Josephine Martins, writer at Artscope Magazine and former curator at The Museum of Nebraska Art, in this exhibition. They invited artists to examine themselves using their own signature style. Each work was created specifically for this exhibit. The co-curators describe what compelled them with this subject:
“I’m fascinated by artist’s individual life choices, the events and conditions that inspire their work, and most importantly to me, how each person portrays themselves to the world, and the balance between reality and illusion - who they are versus how they wish to be defined by the outside world.” Josephine Martins
“The self-portrait is a means that artists have of identifying themselves at a given moment in time. It is a frozen instant, a snapshot, and it is immediately a historical document upon its completion. Over time, it becomes a window into the past, yet it is open to the interpretations of the continuously moving present.” Joseph Farbrook
Artists in this exhibit include: Heather Adels, Scott Boilard, Lora Brueck, Nina Fletcher, Antonio Fonseca, Diane Francis, Tom Grady, Don Hartmann, Scott Holloway, Howard Johnson, Cheryl Lichwell, Joanna Matuck, Maxine McDonald, Kat O’Connor, Irina Parfenova, Yana Payusova, Lennie Peterson and O. Gustavo Plascencia, M.P. Raymond.
