Defying Genres is a group exhibition featuring eight fine artists whose body of works challenges the definitions of what is art.
Artists in this exhibition include: Dorothy Benedict, Nicole Brathwaite-Hunt, Don Hartmann, Howard Johnson, J-Me Johnston, John Pagano, Ann Rosebrooks, and Agnes Wyant.
Works in this exhibition have a common theme of figuration and are reminiscent of outsider, folk, and avant garde art but none of the participating artists are that genre by definition. As the history of art progresses and expands, lines blur and inspirations cross cultures, with new grey areas presenting themselves for consideration. How do you describe an artist without pinning a label on them?
