at the Aurora Gallery, 660 Main Street, Worcester, MA

Through the Lens serves as a venue to present three exhibitions showcasing the artistic talent of ten local photographers.

On the upper level of the Aurora Gallery, Tim Johnson and Kathryn Ingrid Schettler each present a solo exhibition.  Trees and Fictions is a collection of photographs by Tim Johnson.  Tim’s work is inspired by the tracery of leafless branches and the lines they create when the brightness of the sky turns the branches into silhouettes.  His photography accentuates the sense of line and pattern created by trees against natural landscapes.  Trees and Fictions also includes work from an ongoing series in which Tim has taken disparate photographs of nature and joined them together to create new mysterious and engaging images.

In addition to Tim Johnson’s exhibition, Kathryn Ingrid Schettler presents True Story Photography, a series of photographic works exploring concepts of demographic, social, and cultural stereotypes.  Kathryn uses her camera to document the unique life stories of individuals and challenges the viewer to question their understanding of culture, tradition, legacy, and heritage outside the context of their own lives.

On the landing and the lower level of the Aurora Gallery, f8 Photography Group offers Time Fragments, exploring emotions evoked by images of the passage of time. This exhibition offers two themes:  an external focus on vacant and abandoned spaces, and an internal focus on one's own life.
