Moments of Grace
Moments of Grace is an ARTSWorcester members' exhibition held in collaboration with the Museum of Russian Icons. Today, the definition of icon expands beyond the boundaries of religion alone to represent any visual expression of personal inspiration. This show will explore how an artist's individual beliefs; whether spiritual, personal, or political, can inspire uniquely innovative contemporary art. Moments of Grace showcases a wide variety of work influenced by traditional and modern forms of iconography.
The Museum of Russian Icons located in Clinton, Massachusetts, was founded as a non-profit educational museum by Gordon Lankton. The collection includes about 340 Russian icons, the largest collection of its kind in North America. It is one of the largest private collections outside of Russia. The collection spans six centuries, and includes important historical icons dating from the earliest periods of icon painting up to the present. More information on the Museum can be found at: www.museumofrussianicons.org
A small selection of icons from the Museum of Russian Icons will be on display during the Moments of Grace exhibition.
