Pop Euphoria
Pop Euphoria Opening Reception will take place Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the Aurora Gallery. Special features at the opening reception will include a display of the Batman cowl worn by Adam West on the 1966 TV show BATMAN, as well as the creative and unique talent of artist Haruo Shiga, who will be making origami hats to sell.
Pop Euphoria brings together art of different cultures, toys, fairytales, icons, and ephemera that inspire and move us. Contemporary illustration is now blurring the lines between commercialism and fine art. Pop Euphoria will feature progressive illustrators; many of whom are premiering new works for the exhibition and will showcase a variety of work never previously exhibited in Worcester or Boston. Artists from all over the world, including Canada, Japan, Belgium, England, Sweden, Singapore, New York, and many other areas of the United States. Participating artists include Jamie Buckmaster, Brian Butler, Keenan Cassidy, Kristin Elder, the IceCream People, Jennifer Lewis, Phil McAndrew, Fish McGill, Rey Ortega, Brian Reddy, Rosemary Travale, Christina Ung, Gordon Weibe, and more. Many works for sale and proceeds from catalogue will be donated to Sherry's House through Toys for Tots. ARTSWorcester will be a drop off point for Toys for Tots in December.
Pop Euphoria will also include a silkscreen by award winner Alexei Vella; new paintings by Liz Artinian, background artist and color supervisor for Cartoon Network's "The Venture Brothers;" new work by Patricia Burgess, artist for The Muppets/The Henson Company; and new work by Mark Reusch, mask-maker, poster designer, and illustrator. Also included in the exhibition are prints by Matt Furie; Harry + The Potters art by comic artist Dave Roman; and new Megos by Paul Clarke, supplier and artist for Cartoon Network's hit show "ROBOT CHICKEN."
Pop Euphoria will showcase hand painted, vintage animation cels from 1960's commercials including Raisin Bran, Frankenberry, and Captain Crunch. The exhibition will also present paintings, silk-screens, vinyl toys, and installations by KAIJU BIG BATTEL, a hugely popular troupe that performs in New York, Boston, and LA.
