ARTSWorcester joins in the national celebration of Hispanic art and culture through two upcoming exhibitionsSeptember 18, 2007 At the Aurora Gallery: Viva el Arte 2007An exhibition of contemporary Hispanic art October 5 through November 2, 2007 Artist Reception: Friday, October 5, 2007 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at ARTSWorcester’s Aurora Gallery 660 Main Street, Worcester, MA. This event is free and open to the public and will feature refreshments and music. In Collaboration with Centro Las Americas, ARTSWorcester offers: Viva el Arte 2007 is an exhibition celebrating Hispanic art and culture. Viva el Arte began in 1993 as a way of highlighting the wealth of artistic talent which exists within our local Latino community. Hispanic artists from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are invited to exhibit artwork in all media for this event. The exhibition will be juried by Antonio Fonesca and by Honee Hess from the Worcester Art Museum. Please join us for this exciting occasion to explore and enjoy a visual presentation of local Hispanic culture. Closing ceremony for Viva el Arte will take place November 2, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Awards will be presented. Aurora Gallery Address: 660 Main Street, Worcester, MA At the Quinsigamond Community College Diversity Gallery: The Evolution of Thought - Paintings by Aida RodriguezARTSWorcester will honor Latin American artist Aida Rodriguez with a solo exhibition at the Quinsigamond Community College Gallery. The Evolution of Thought reflects the influence of Picasso’s geometric fracturing of the female form and the surrealist designs of Dali. Rodriguez’s uses primitive symbols and bright, illuminated colors to express what she defines as “the cultural-primitive female principal”. Rodriguez continues, “This art shows the viewer how my cultural identity is centered on the female and remains central to the memories of the Latino matriarchs of my youth.” The exhibition will run from October 2 through November 3. The artist reception will take place October 2 from 6:00-8:00 pm; artist walk will take place from 7-7:30 pm.
