A gallery walk with the artist will be held from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. that evening. “Stones of Ireland,” photographer Lora Brueck states, “On first arriving in Ireland, one is captivated by the greenness--the lush fields and woodlands. But then one begins to notice the stones. Perhaps one first sees the stone walls—are they meant to separate cows and sheep, mark boundaries, or are they just a place to put all the stones to get them out of the way of farming? Huge rocky crags and smaller geological sediments line the shores. There are the abbeys and monasteries, village churches, the stately homes of land barons of previous centuries, crude farm buildings, and towers that once protected the coasts. In the churchyards, the noble and the humble are immortalized with stone tablets, crosses, and headstones. The walls of tiny houses in villages long- deserted stand as reminders of days of poverty and famine. This exhibition follows the “progression of stones, from their geological origins to the many ways the Irish people have used them as a part of their daily lives and as expressions of their reverence for the creator and for their beloved.”
